A recent search and rescue mission near Las Vegas turns into a head-scratching puzzle when a mysterious monolith is spotted by the Las Vegas Police Department in a hiking area around 20 miles north of the city.
“We see a lot of weird things when people go hiking like not being prepared for the weather, not bringing enough water… but check this out!” the Police department wrote on their Facebook.
“Over the weekend, Las Vegas Metro Search and Rescue spotted this mysterious monolith near Gass Peak north of the valley. How did it get up there??”
The object itself is a tall rectangular prism with a highly reflective, mirror-like surface.
Its appearance follows on from the discovery of several other monoliths in locations around the world including one that showed up in Wales earlier this year and another that was found in Utah in 2020 during the time of the Pandemic. Other monoliths have also shown up in California, Romania, and the UK’s Isle of Wight.
People are speculating that the objects have been likened to the mysterious monoliths of Arthur C Clarke’s iconic science fiction novel 2001: A Space Odyssey and director Stanley Kubrick’s movie adaptation.
People around the world are still questioning the origin and purpose of the bizarre structures and who is behind them. There are no signs of human manipulation behind the mysteries that unfold the monoliths.
