The Dark History of Atheism and Godlessness|

Modern atheists claim that atheism is “the lack of belief in a deity or deities” and that’s what they always insist on when they’re talking in front of the believers. However, the lack of belief doesn’t mean that they are not accountable for their views about God and life. There are dark sides to each particular thing — and atheism has its dark side.

Indeed, certain historical figures who identified as atheists or were influenced by atheist ideologies have been involved in brutal events.

One example often cited is the reign of terror during the French Revolution in the late 18th century. This period saw the rise of the Jacobins, who promoted the ideas of the Enlightenment and advocated for a secular society. While some of the revolutionaries were atheists who were driven by their godless propaganda with a mix of complex political and social factors that included the desire to eradicate the power of religion and establish a secular regime.

Another example is the Soviet Union under Joseph Stalin, where atheism was promoted as part of the state ideology of Marxism-Leninism. Under his rule, millions of people died. In addition to the repression under Stalin, the Soviet government targeted religious minorities, such as the persecution of Christian religious groups of Jehovah’s Witnesses and other religious groups. This resulted in the imprisonment, forced labor, and deaths of individuals due to their religious beliefs.

The regime of the atheist Enver Hoxha in Albania pursued a policy of state atheism, aiming to eradicate religious belief. Mosques, churches, and other religious institutions were closed or repurposed, religious practices were banned, and clergy were persecuted. The campaign against religion was enforced through harsh measures, including imprisonment, torture, and execution.

It is also noted that the Khmer Rouge regime, led by Pol Pot, sought to create a purely atheistic communist society devoid of religious influences. As part of their efforts to reshape Cambodian society, the Khmer Rouge targeted Buddhist monks, Christian clergy, and practitioners of traditional religions, resulting in mass executions, brutality, and the destruction of religious institutions.

Under Mao Zedong’s leadership, China underwent a radical transformation marked by the suppression of religious and cultural practices deemed incompatible with communist ideology. Temples were destroyed, religious leaders were persecuted, and believers faced discrimination and violence. The Cultural Revolution, in particular, unleashed widespread chaos and brutality, leading to countless deaths and suffering.

These are some examples of historical events of atheism’s dark history where certain individuals or movements that identify as atheists may engage in harmful or immoral actions for various reasons.

But atheists may respond and say ‘atheists did not kill people in the name of atheism!’ Is it true?

In a study published in the journal Nature Human Behaviour on Monday, a team of American researchers found that people who were told a story about a serial killer were more likely to believe that the killer was an atheist.

Atheists’ crucial behavior can be traced back to their emotional breakdown. The emotional concern here is that based on the research study atheism is linked to emotional suppression. According to new research published in the journal Psychology of Religion and Spirituality, atheism is associated with the habitual restriction of emotional displays.

Belief or disbelief in the Unseen is often regarded as the foundation of people’s worldviews, and anger, pity, and the like are often directed at those whose worldviews don’t match our own. This new research points to a profound irony — that belief and disbelief themselves are shaped, in part, by what we do with our emotions,” said Christopher T. Burris, the author of the new study and professor of psychology at St. Jerome’s University.

  1. Unfortuantely, for the theists who repeat these lies, atheism has nothing to do with these atrocities, megalomania did.

and all that those studies show is that theists are ignorant and need to be mollified by happy faces. Here in the US, if you don’t smile people always ask what is wrong, when some of us don’t need to smile pointlessly all of the time.

“The results contrast with recent polls that do not find self-reported moral prejudice against atheists in highly secular countries15, and imply that the recent rise in secularism in Western countries has not overwritten intuitive anti-atheist prejudice. Entrenched moral suspicion of atheists suggests that religion’s powerful influence on moral judgements persists, even among non-believers in secular societies.”
