A low pressure area who will turn into a new tropical depression named Goring may intensify the southwest monsoon, or ‘habagat’, starting Sunday or Monday (August 28, 29), which could lead to occasional rains over the western parts of Central and Southern Luzon, including the National Capital Region (NCR), and other parts of Visayas regions.
Goring, as a new tropical depression, will remain over the Philippine Sea for the next five days and may strengthen the effects of the Habagat and bring occasional rains to some other parts of the country, according to the latest bulletin release by Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Association (PAG-ASA) on 24th of August.
PAG-ASA said storm Goring was last located 335 kilometers (km) east-northeast of Calayan, Cagayan or 300 km east of Basco, Batanes, as of 11 a.m in the morning bulletin release.
The storm is moving north-northwest ward at 15 kilometers per hour (kph) with maximum sustained wind of 55 kph near the center and gusts of up to 70 kph.
