Worshippers of the Kaaba holy site in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, were hit by an unusually mighty storm-winds on Tuesday, August 22, 2023, causing widespread damage across the country.

Footage of videos from social media shows how the winds and storms were so strong that they lifted plastic barriers and posed a risk to pilgrims in the Grand Mosque of Mecca. Power supplies and poles also collapsed due to the heavy rains and winds.

According to the Saudi Arabia National Meteorological Centre, thunderstorms accompanied by vigorous winds will hit the next 24 hours, as they warn citizens to prepare for themselves take precautions, and stay safe during the storms. Flooded streets and heavy rains are brought by unusual weather in every corner of Saudi Arabia and affect most in Medina, Mecca, Asir, Jazan, and Al-Baha.
