The province of Capiz is one of the “Seafoods Capital of the Philippines.” It is located in Panay Island on Region VI. The province is surrounded by its enchanting tourist spots with more prominent and renowned tourist attractions of the nearby provinces (such as Iloilo, Aklan, Antique, and Negros Island). Capiz has its own fascinating natural beauty worth visiting. The province of Capiz has a lot of beautiful places that anyone can visit whether it could be at beaches lined up with seafood restaurants and accommodations or by inland destinations that includes museums, old churches, eco parks, waterfalls, mountain climbing and a lot more.

Here are some of the most famous tourist attractions in Capiz.

1. BAYBAY BEACH

Baybay Beach is one of the best tourist attractions in Capiz. It is a favorite weekend destination among locals and foreign visitors. It features a 7-kilometer-long stretch of soft black sand and calm seawater that faces Sibuyan Island. On this beach, you can have swimming, snorkeling, and kayaking activities with your family and friends. There’s a lot more! Another reason for visiting Baybay Beach is the delicious seafood dishes being served in an array of beachfront restaurants. These are the trademarks of Capiz as one of the seafood capitals of the country.

2. PALINA GREENBELT ECOPARK

Palina Greenbelt Ecopark is one of the known tourist spots in Capiz that offers a relaxing and satisfying river cruise. Tourists will board a floating restaurant which is made of a nipa hut with tables and benches perched on a bamboo raft while being pulled by a motorboat for a river cruise down the placid Palina River. It will pass through mangrove areas, and fish ponds, and visitors may catch a glimpse of the daily living of the locals. Aside from the cruise itself, visitors may enjoy the fresh seafood meals served on the raft. Even foot spa or body massage while on board. Palina Greenbelt Ecopark is located at Barangay Cagay, Roxas City, Capiz.

3. CADIMAHAN RIVER TOUR

Aside from Palina Greenbelt Ecopark, another popular tourist destination in Capiz that offers a relaxing river cruise is the Cadimahan River Tour. It is located at Barangay Baybay, Roxas City, Capiz.

Tourists may choose to have a river cruise down the Cadimahan River or stay in a stationary floating restaurant. It is similar to the Palina Greenbelt Ecopark with sumptuous seafood delicacies that are offered for the visitors in the floating restaurant, and additional services such as spa and body massage. While cruising on the river, you may enjoy the views of mangroves and beautiful flying birds while local singers entertain you with some Hiligaynon and other Filipino folksongs and serenades.

4. SUHOT CAVE AND SPRING

One of the favored destinations among the locals is the Suhot Cave and Spring. Onsite are open huts facing the developed spring pool wherein the cold and natural spring are coming out from the rock on the cave. A stone’s throw away from the spring pool is the Suhot Cave. Not that many interesting stalactites and stalagmite formations but still worth exploring to have some adventure. A 15-minute trek from Suhot Cave and Spring is another cave called Lahab Cave. Visitors may enjoy dipping or swimming in the refreshing spring or go spelunking in the nearby caves. Suhot Cave and Spring is located at Barangay Dolores, Dumalag, Capiz.

5. PANAY CHURCH

Panay Church, also known as Santa Monica Parish Church, is the most famous historical landmark in the province of Capiz. It is a neo-classical baroque church built in 1884 made of coral blocks. It has a fascinating facade and artistic retablos inside with carved wooden designs. Beside the church is a 5-story belfry that houses the “Largest Bell in the Country” made from 70 sacks of coin gold and silver given by the people of the town. The sound of the bell can be heard 8 kilometers away. Atop the belfry, visitors would notice the scenic views of the town and nearby looming mountains. It is wonderful to visit such a historical landmark once in a lifetime. Panay Church is located in Panay, Capiz.
