US President Joe Biden made an announcement to the Russian citizens and its government that there would be “a bloody, destructive war” against Ukraine according to a new report from Fox News.
“To the citizens of Russia, you are not our enemy,” he said in his early public speech. “And I do not believe you want a bloody destructive war against Ukraine, a country and the people with whom you share such deep ties of family history and culture.”
Biden went further and stated that he has hope, both of a diplomatic solution to ease tensions over Ukraine and in Russian President Vladimir Putin’s willingness to continue those talks.Should diplomacy not prevail, Biden warned in remarks at the White House, the consequences could be painful, and not just for Putin.
“To be clear, if Russia decides to invade that will also have consequences here at home, but the American people understand that defending democracy and liberty is never without cost,” Biden said. The US President also said it was still a possibility that Russia will invade Ukraine.
Biden said his team has been involved in non-stop diplomacy and he plans to give diplomacy every chance to succeed. He also warned Russia remains in a “threatening position”. He then warned that the U.S. was prepared to carry out powerful economic sanctions on Russia should it decide to mount an invasion.
