Before his death, Rabbi Kaduri had said that he expected the Jewish Messiah, to arrive soon and that he had already met him since he was still alive. This intrigued people around him especially his followers and the Jewish community. It has been alleged that he left a handwritten note to his followers and that they were reportedly instructed to only open the secret note after Rabbi Kaduri had been dead for one year.

The life of the mystical rabbi

Yitzchak Kaduri was born in 1898, in Baghdad, Iraq. He died on January 28, 2006 (29 Tevet 5766), around 10 p.m due to his complication with pneumonia. He died in the Bikur Holim and was buried at the Givat Shaul cemetery near the entrance to the city of Jerusalem.

Kaduri was a renowned Mizrahi Haredi rabbi and kabbalist who devoted his life to the study of the Torah, the five books of Moses, and prayer on behalf of the Jewish people. He is reported to have a miraculous intervention in the people surrounding him. He also blesses amulets which can cure illness and infertility.

Over the years, thousands of people, especially the Jewish circles, would come to seek his advice, blessings, and amulets which he would create specifically for the individual in need. Many people directly attributed personal miracles to receiving a blessing from Kaduri, such as recovery from severe illnesses and diseases, children born to couples with fertility problems, finding a spouse, and economic blessings.

He is considered by his grandson, Yossi Kaduri, as a “prophesier”. Reporter Baruch Gordon of Arutz Sheva believes that Kaduri predicted the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami which killed over 200,000 people.

Rabbi Kaduri revealed the name of the Messiah

After one year had passed, the followers of Rabbi Kaduri opened the secret note and announced it to the public. The note was found to be read, in Hebrew letters, like this: “ירים העם ויוכיח שדברו ותורתו עומדים” (translated as “he will raise the people and confirm that his word and law are standing”), which by the acronym, suggested the name “Yehoshua“. Acrostics are well-known in the Bible just as the name of God, Jehovah, was read acrostically in the Book of Esther.

But instead of believing the revelation, many religious Jews suspected the note was a type of Messianic Jewish forgery and that’s why they discredit it. Rabbi Tovia Singer suggests that Kaduri may refer to the name of the biblical Yehoshua Ben Nun, rather than to Jesus Christ. Interestingly, Yehoshua or Yeshua is the original Jewish Hebrew name of the English name “Jesus” — which means “Jehovah is my salvation”. The Greek Septuagint and the New Testament translated the name ” Yehoshua” to “Iesous” or “Jesus”.

The name of Kaduri’s Messiah is a controversial debate to this day in Jewish circles. Christians believe that Jesus Christ was the promised “Messiah” according to what the Bible says. —  Isaiah 9:7; Matthew 1:1, 6-17
